The Birmingham Art Music Alliance (BAMA) presents the 2016 Birmingham New Music Festival Thursday, September 22 through Saturday, September 24, 2016. The three concerts of the 2016 Birmingham New Music Festival feature music by regional composers.

All events are free and open to the public!

Thursday’s concert at UAB highlights electronic music and pieces combining acoustic instruments with electronics. Composers include Birmingham Art Music Alliance founding members Monroe Golden and Holland Hopson. Also featured is area-newcomer Geni Skendo along with Timothy Gibbons and Matthew Phillips.

Friday’s concert at Samford features chamber music composed by Joel Scott Davis, Joseph Landers, Brian C. Moon, William Price and Brianna Ware. Performers include pianist Anthony Pattin and saxophonists Brian Utley and John S. Moore.

Saturday’s concert at Birmingham-Southern College continues the chamber music theme with compositions by Lori Ardovino, Kenneth Kuhn, Matthew Phillips, Tom Reiner, Ron Wray, and NYC-based composer Nico Muhly (performed by BAMA member Edward Forstman.)
